Metal Corrosion Study with in-situ and ex-situ AFM

Introduction

We study metallic corrosion behavior of pure aluminum, aluminum alloy 2024-T3, aluminum single crystal (111), NiAl alloy single crystal (110) and pure nickel. The goal of our research is to understand how pitting corrosion behavior of metals changes under a combination of chemical/electrochemical and non-equilibrium physical (stress/strain) environments. In-situ AFM study is used to elucidate metallic corrosion mechanisms and kinetics.
